Puerto Morelos Official Guide
puerto morelos information
Driving south from Cancun the first town you will find is Puerto Morelos. There is a marine terminal at Puerto Morelos and this one is equipped to handle containers and is the largest and most important sea port in the state of Quintana Roo. This original coastal fishing village is now a quiet, mixed-use neighborhood of private homes, hotels, condominiums, restaurants, and tourist shops. Puerto Morelos has grown rapidly with the development of tourism and as of 2009 is estimated to be the home to some 15,000 people.
Resorts are abundant in the Puerto Morelos region along the Riviera Maya and attractions, such as the Crococun Crocodile Zoo, are also increasing in number. One hundred meters off shore lay the Puerto Morelos portion of the Mesoamerican Barrier Reef System, designated as a National Marine Park due to local environmental activists.
Practically all types of cuisine are available in Puerto Morelos, from Mexican regional food to international fare, fast food to vegetarian. Visitors will find a good variety of restaurants and styles to choose from.
Everything in Puerto Morelos is located in an easy walking distance. The streets are safe to walk and well lit at night as well.
In Puerto Morelos you will find tranquility, long stretches of beach and a small town atmosphere. This is the place to come and relax: watch the sunset on the beach, meet the locals and explore the natural wonders.
